Tennis Courts
Recommendations for Maintenance of Your Hard Courts
Here are some recommendations for taking care
of your hard surface tennis courts and protecting your investment!
All vegetation should be removed one foot from the perimeter of the
court, and the soil should be treated with a systemic herbicide (i.e.
Roundup) to preclude the growth of weeds such as Bermudagrass, which
will grow under and through the court.
Keep the surface clean of dirt, rock, leaves, pinestraw, and foreign
matter. Periodically hose down the court surface and windscreens to
minimize the accumulation of dirt.
The net posts should be scraped and repainted periodically.
Street shoes, non-tennis footwear, skateboards, roller blades, bicycles,
etc., must not be allowed on the courts, as they may damage the surface.
Care should also be taken regarding the type of seating allowed on the
court for the same reason.
It is recommended that overhanging trees and bushes be a minimum of
20 - 25 feet from the court surface to minimize potential damage from
roots and leaves. It is very important to keep the surface clean of
fallen leaves, as they may stain and corrode the court surface.
Monitor the nets to ensure that they are not overtensioned. This can
lead to bent posts and/or cracks around the net post foundations, and
possibly lead to upheaval of the foundations. Better yet, if you have
removable ratchet handles - remove them!
